The lotus grows in what seems an unlikely place for a graceful flower - in the mud. Its flower, however, rises above the murkiness to blossom fresh, bright, and pure. For this reason, the lotus is significant in many cultures and religions, representing purity, transcendence, and strength.
Lotus is also available as a set with Lotus Buds.
I very much enjoyed designing Lotus and Lotus Buds. Lotus flowers are often depicted in all phases of the flower's life cycle, from bud to eventual wilting. This is not usually the case for other blossoms, and the distinction likely reflects the universal significance of this flower, which has long been a favourite of mine.
A single lotus blossom.
Please note that the true colour of this piece is closer to the colour depicted in the first picture (with the black and white background painting of lotus leaves)!
