The rabbit signifies the arrival of springtime, when there is new life. It is also a symbol of luck and longevity in Chinese culture.
The design for the larger Rabbit is referenced from Yoshitoshi's woodblock print of the Jade Rabbit. I paid attention to the thread directions to give it a fluffy appearance with minimal lines. For the Baby Rabbits, I used another of Hokusai's manga designs as the inspiration for these.
