This is a custom shaped rug designed after the ryūkin, a breed of goldfish admired for its unique and graceful appearance. The rug is hand-tufted from 100% New Zealand wool, is a full cut pile and of a level height throughout the rug.
This rug is our smallest so far, and its compact size would make a great feature piece in a smaller space such as a reading corner or home office.
Artist's note
This goldfish design was taken after the ryūkin (琉金) breed of goldfish, one of the oldest and most recognized of the fancy goldfish. In Chinese and Japanese culture, the goldfish is associated with happiness, fortune, and harmony, bringing positive energy into the household.
Our previous rugs were intentionally designed to be large interpretations of the irezumi style; this time, I wanted to create a smaller rug to make it more accessible to those who may not have as much space but still want to fill it with the elegance of Japanese-style art in rug form.
